Keeping both children and parents entertained

A rich and diverse calendar of events at St. Andrew's Day Nursery

Here are some examples of events and celebrations that take place at St. Andrew's Day Nursery:

Chinese New Year

We encourage children to try different foods, role play using various resources and dressing up clothes along with creative activities representing the year of the particular animal.

Growing and New Life

This is an opportunity for children to go outside to our large growing area and understand how plants and vegetables grow and to take part in helping us to plant seeds etc. and to nuture the seeds and young plants as they grow. This helps the children understand responsibility and to nurture and care.

We have the opportunity each year to hatch our own chicks at the nursery where we have an incubator in the pre-school room where the children can watch the eggs hatching and chicks being born. We are then able to feed the chicks and watch them grow until they sadly leave us to go to new homes. All of the children and their parents love to become involved and share in this wonderful activity.

Easter celebration

Easter

Each year we hold a parade where we invite parents to help make their child's Easter bonnet. All parents are then invited to proudly watch their children show off their lovely creations.

We also hold what is definitely a very popular Easter egg hunt in our large gardens with both children and parents taking part.

Halloween

World Book Day

Children are invited to dress up as their favourite character out of a book they enjoy, or bring in their favourite book for us to read.

Harvest

Throughout the summer and autumn the children enjoy picking fruit and vegetables from our growing area which are then prepared in our kitchen for them to eat at meal and snack times. To support and extend their learning we discuss harvest and its meaning.

Halloween

The children always have a fun and spooky time at the nursery, helping to decorate their rooms as well as having their own mini party. We also have a large Halloween party at the local village hall where we invite all of the children from the nursery, past and present, as well as their parents.

We also manage to grow our own pumpkins and the children really enjoy carving these as well as eating our yummy pumpkin soup.

Celebrations and Festivals

We believe that children should have a good knowledge and understanding of the world and as such we like to include and celebrate all of our children's backgrounds and cultures. This includes Chinese New Year, Easter, Diwalli and Christmas just as a few examples.

Christmas

Each year we enjoy having various events at the nursery which include a large home cooked Christmas dinner for all of the staff and children together. Each room also has its own party with lots of fun and entertaining games.

We hold a magical Christmas concert at the local village hall for all of the families from our nursery to attend followed by tea or juice and mince pies (and possibly a little glass of mulled wine to get us in the Christmas spirit!).

And of course it would not be Christmas without a visit from 'you know who'... Yes Santa and his helpers visit us in a magical grotto complete with sparkly reindeer, where each child receives a small treat.

Charity event

Charity Events

We like to support various charity events throughout the year which includes Children in Need, Red Nose Day and Princess and Pirates Day (supporting disabled children). We also have a designated charity(s) which we support whenever possible.

Outings

We endeavour to take the children on small local outings throughout the year to explore the wider environment. This can include trips to the park, village hall and the local church in Shilton, Warwickshire when the children also enjoy collecting things along the way.
